Aims
This project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of our team’s previously co-created psychosocial bibliotherapy resources in improving children’s understanding of the stressors associated with service family life and enhancing their coping strategies and mental health outcomes.
Forty children from the target cohort (6-10 years) and their (civilian) parents from Australia, the UK and Canada will be interviewed using a semi-structured approach within each child-parent dyad.
We will use Zoom video conferencing to explore the effectiveness of the bibliotherapy resources to improve children’s:
a) understanding of what is happening in their family,
b) coping strategies, and
c) wellbeing.
Using a qualitative approach, we will interview each parent-child pair together, before and after the bibliotherapy intervention.

Expected outcomes
The expected outcomes are that the research team, our existing network of partners, and those with lived experience will gain a better understanding of how bibliotherapy can support these children and the nuanced ways this therapy can build their resilience.
