We have been awarded UNE funding of almost $10,000 AUD to pilot our evidence-informed storybooks with families in 2026 to test their effectiveness.

Attention Military, Veteran and First Responder families and those who support them!
We’re inviting parents from service families (Defence/military, veterans and first responders) and their children (3-11 years) in Australia, Canada and the UK to be involved in a bibliotherapy (storybook sharing) study.
While we get great feedback about our free storybooks made with and for people from service families, we also want to know if they work.
The study will involve:
- filling in a 10-minute registration survey
- reading a storybook with your child/ren and doing some related activities over a month
- filling in a before-and-after online survey
- audio recording your child answering some questions that you will ask them (but we will provide the questions).
What’s in it for you?
Eligible parents will receive a $50 AUD gift voucher, and children will receive a $25 AUD voucher each once all activities are completed. Families can also keep the storybook/s we provide.
Who can participate?
The following people can participate if they are from Australia, Canada or the UK:
- Civilian parents or carers (18 years or over) of at least one child (3-11 years) in a current serving military (Defence/Armed Services) family
- Veteran parents (previously serving, 18 years or over) with at least one child aged 3-11 years
- Parent or carers (18 years or over) within a veteran family (previously serving) with at least one child aged 3-11 years
- First responder/emergency services/public safety personnel parent (non-military, 18 years or over, currently or previously serving) with at least one child aged 3-11 years
- Parent or carer within a first responder family/public safety personnel family (current or previously serving) with at least one child aged 3-11 years.
Who cannot participate?
Current serving members of the Defence/Armed Services/Military.
Parents who are under 18 years old.
